The owner of a barbershop asked me to create a mural that would reflect both his personal style and the unique aesthetic of the shop. With a combined social media following of nearly one million (249k+ on Instagram and 728k+ on TikTok), the mural also needed to serve as a visually engaging backdrop for content creation, amplifying the shop’s online presence.
Tools: Adobe Fresco
Role: Designer and Muralist
Timeline: 3 days
The barbershop’s interior featured strong Japanese-inspired design elements, primarily in black and white, which contrasted with bold, colourful artworks. Much of the shop’s art was by Nashid Chroma, a Digital Pop Artist known for his vibrant and abstract tributes of big artists. His work heavily influenced the visual direction of this project.
My concept blended Nashid Chroma's bold, expressive style with elements that were personal to the shop’s identity. I explored themes of koi fish and bright florals, both staples of Japanese art, and added a modern, pixelated twist.
As this project dates back to December 2022, the original mockups have since been lost. However, the final mural was developed through rapid sketching and refinement on Adobe Fresco.
The finished mural captures the spirit of the barbershop- bold, contemporary, and original. It not only transformed a blank wall into a visual centerpiece but also elevated the shop’s social media presence.
